The Role of an Engineering Manager
An engineering manager is an important role and I think that to a large degree it's relatively underutilized in the industry. The key here is that when you're working with people humans have things that happen in their lives either within work or outside of work. There's a degree of shared experience that goes with that empathy that can only be expressed if you've been through those trenches and done those things. So from my perspective I think that it's important that we codify this a little bit better, bringing a little bit more awareness and understanding to what that role is.
