The Paradox of Intellectual Humility
LZ: Could it be that the likelihood of my succumbing to peripheral cues is very much moderated by different domains that the information is coming from, right? So in the mushroom case, maybe the tall and good looking doesn't matter. But in other situations, I can imagine that that its effect will be much greater. LZ: In most contexts, being intellectually humble sort of pays out because you know, if you're upper confident, people will tend to like you more as a rule. He says there are some social consequences for intellectual arrogance but they don't always come into play when we talk about humility.
