There is a very robust pattern that the choice of exotics leads to more attractive headline rate. So you could structure a Newton-Henson product with a plain vanilla option, but it would not offer, for example, 20% and your coupon. I think that choice of exotic features is modulations of the payoff. To make the headline rates look more attractive, I think that's a very robust buy-by-life pattern that applies to structured products.
