Shelley Levi's grandfather was Jaime Abravanel, a specialist in infectious diseases. At this time, he was also fighting against the Nazi occupation of Yugoslavia. In early 1941, three members of Riznichi's family had contracted typhoid fever and died. Around this time, on the 6th of April 1941, the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was invaded simultaneously by Germany, Italy, and their ally, Hungary. The Germans occupied Serbia and the eastern side of Croatia. So, when the Germans started occupying my grandfather, that was a medical doctor, he was part of a military force that was sent to fight against the Germans in the area of Kosovo.
