The song draws out its conclusion long enough that I kinda feel like Al himself doesn't want it to end. Of the many surreal moments in our visit, buying that postcard might be the most surreal. There's no new harmonic information, nothing dramatic happening in the melody or the arrangement. The story has been spun, the destination reached. We're just enjoying our time at the twine ball,. marveling at and bearing witness to this grand goofy thing.
