What the Book Sword of Allah Says About Damascus
Damascus was known as the Paradise of Syria, a glittering metropolis which contained everything that makes a city great and famous. The Romans knew Khaled ibn Walid was on his way to Damascus, but they were not really prepared for a battle. Outside of the city of Jerusalem, Damascus was the most important Roman city in the Levant. It had wealth, culture, temples and troops. But it also had regular civilians who had to eat and live throughout a long siege.
