The 18 fifties were the highest rate of emigration th you s ever. Once the south, which had very few immigrants, seceded, immigrants were half the us. 25 % of the union army was foreign born. Another 20% had at least one parent born abroad. Only five per of the confederate army were forinborn. Emmigrants need jobs. They're not conspirators. They just want a job and a decent life if they can help it.
