Even if you don't get laid off, they could cancel the project. They could defund that app that you're working on and move you to something else completely. You can ask how did your company handle it? GE gave us a year to look for internal roles outside of what would be posted publicly. I ended up getting a job with them again. And I hope if you can find an interviewer that is excited about talking about this kind of thing...I think it's there.
