The History of the Inquisition

In the 1230s, when the first inquisitors began their work, they were reviving a judicial procedure from ancient Rome that prioritized human reason as the way of judging guilt and innocence. And so these inquisitors who were tasked with eradicating Christian heresy were supposed to use confessions and testimonies,. especially if eyewitnesses to determine who was guilty, who was innocent in each case.
