Bob Greene: I was always a nerd in into tech stuff. One of my earliest investments was buying Google and an IPO in August 2004. He bought Facebook and that IPO, which hasn't done nearly as well, but still has outperformed the market. And another big one is Tesla back in 2012. It's very hard to pick a winning stock. Even if you do pick it, you have to be right twice, right? You have to buy it. And then you have to sell it at the right time. No empires last forever.
