The Precursor to the Sixth Great Mass Extinction
There's been five great mass extinctions events before, you know, now people are calling this the sixth great mass extinction. The majority of ways to be or exist in the world that aren't self-destructive is just so much smaller than the ways that are not sustainable. This idea of novelty, chaos, new order emerging from that is something that is literally as old as human psychology itself. But we are sort of the archetypal case of self-reflective consciousness that spends a lot of time imagining possible futures and trying to select ones with least catastrophic trajectories.
