The Story of Vincent Chidd

Vincent and his family are from china. Even though he's all american, his mother, lily, isn't. She came out here as a young bride in 19 forty eight. Her father actually said, your great grandfather had a terrible time building the railroads. But she said, it was different back then. Things are different now. And her heart was broken when the white children in her neighborhood made fun of her. They would pull their eyes back in an exaggerated slanted motion and make faces at her. The people around them, all the white people, were very upset that they were sitting there. And they started saying terrible things and making them uncomfortable and feeling unsafe
