David Helerstein, professor of clinical psychiatry at Columbia University Medical Center and director of Columbia's depression evaluation service, said the serotonin hypothesis is a quaint and oversimplified shorthand that has been superseded by other explanations in clinical practice for decades now. David: Not everyone is so connected and in touch to what they're feeling and they're experiencing. And don't even have that concept of depression in their viewpoint. It was such an offensive comment because still on major websites around your profession, they'll still talk about it in the possibility of a chemical imbalance.
