There's a really eloquent passage in the book about your discovery of James Baldwin. And what's striking about that passage is that you focus on his use of pronouns. There's a sentence where he uses theword we and he uses the word one. And you write that he's proclaiming his right of entry with every possessive pronoun, integrating America by means of grammar and syntax. Sounds like this was both a political and linguistic revolution for you.
