The Promise of Safety and Autonomous Error
In 1937 there were 37,817 traffic deaths that year. The latest for which we have a full year of data is 2020 and the number is 38,680. Almost identical here as the same discussions are happening not quite a century later. I think actually in 2022 it's far more common for people to feel like they have to drive and drive a lot. It's not only a question of how safe each mile is but also of how many miles you have to drive.
