The Importance of String Theory

Bob Greene: Ed Witten popularized string theory, but it's hard to know how he would defend it now. He says the situation with string theory has just gotten worse and worse. It purports to unify all the forces mathematically; in fact there are an infinite number of theories. Greene: String theory is like a theory of anything, which means it's not really a Theory of anything.
