Synthroid and Hypothyroidism

The standard of care for treatment of hypothyroidism was powder of the thyroid from a pig. In 1970, there was a great discovery that the body can transform T4 to T3. That led to Synthroid and other treatments using desiccated thyroid extract. But patients later on in 1997 or 98 or 2002 would ask their physician if they could take Desiccated Thyroid Extract instead of Synthroid or Levoxil.
