The Future of Life Institute Calls for a Six Month Moratorium on AI Development

An open letter has been published calling on companies developing AI to hit the pause button. It says contemporary AI systems are now becoming human competitive at general tasks and we must ask ourselves should we let machines flood out information channels with propaganda and untruth or automate away all the jobs including the fulfilling ones? And it is signed by a variety of people including Ellen Musk and Steve Wozernac who say such decisions must not be delegated to unelected tech leaders powerful AI systems should be developed only once we are confident that their effects will be positive and their risks will be manageable.
