Pattern Overload Is a Common Problem
Pattern overload is a common problem, and i've lectured on this all over the world. But if we get stuck in too narrow a selection of movement patterns, then we can end up having problems because we're overloading those tissues relative to our capacity to recover. There are seven primal movement patterns that i teach, squatting, lunging, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting and gait. Throwing a ball, for example, is a three pattern movement, a lunge, a twist and a push. It includes some primal patterns, but it includes movements such as jumping and spinning which weren't necessary for survival in the wild.
