i think psychiatry is facing a reckoning of sorts where we have to come to terms with our own history of oppression. We also need come to termswith the fact that we arethat we are the third arm of the law. In many ways, we are carceral. And so part of this sort of process needs to be understanding the power that we have and needing to understand the experience that people who are being held involuntarily are having.

She is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. She utilizes both quantitative and qualitative methods to better understand suicide and identify areas of potential improvement.
