Legal restrictions are being lifted, but there is this kind of message that's coming from the government now about what they expect people to do. Do you have a sense how you expect the public to react to these legal liftings? Welll what we've seen throughout the pandemic so far is actually a good rate of compliance with the measures that have been imposed. You know, i think sometimes we get a distorted message from the fact that there are some very vocal and prominent people who are locked down sceptics or questiond the value of mask wearing. But i think on the whole, the public have responded,. and i suspect that they will continue to do so.
The UK government has announced that virtually all COVID restrictions will be removed in England on Monday 18th July. This will do away with social distancing requirements, allow businesses to re-open to full capacity and remove legal mask mandates. This decision comes, however, amidst soaring infections rates in the country, driven by the delta variant.
Now scientists are questioning the wisdom of this policy and asking whether the combination of high transmission and a partially vaccinated population could provide the perfect breeding ground for vaccine-resistant variants - a possibility which could have devastating global consequences.
