Porn is not a special case to be thought of separately from other forms of production or consumption. Porn contributes, has contributed to our sense of possibilities and that is surely one of the ways in which we are less repressed. These complexities of the relations between the self and the worlds of imagination require more than scare mongering. Older respondents talked about porn as a means of accessing bodily sensations which may express forms of nostalgia and attempts to get back to previous kinds of intimacy. Young people who spoke to us talked about themselves as having histories, experience and using porn to think about their real or potential partners.
