The History of Slavery

The slaves' freedom could be either total or partial. Some slaves were very talented people, such as doctors, teachers, and architects. The most restrictive contract was the Para-moni, a type of enslavement in which the master once again retained absolute rights. There is no doubt that a large number of slaves were employed in the craft industries. Men worked in factories making swords, shields, furniture, pottery, and other items; women often worked in textile related industries.
