Your formulation, i wouldn't say, puts everyone on the same level. The obvious fo question is that people do sacrifice themselves for all sorts of causes. And includes, if we think back through history, the good, the bad and the appalling. I it would be unfair to distinguish motive particularly doesn't or doesn't comment on motive.
