Optimizing the Ordering of Transactions Within a Block
In proof of work, miners largely were creating blocks and ordering transactions within a block themselves using specialized software locally. Flash bots put out a client that did this on their behalf called MEV Geth. In short, it would run a bunch of computational work to try to find the optimal ordering of bundles at the top of a block with mempool transactions filling the rest of the block. Just optimizing for the single constraint of what will pay the miner the most if I include this possible block template.
