The story of Simon the leper and a woman who poured perfume on his head is often used to show that Jesus was anti-poor. The author says he remembers this being used as like, hey, you know, you're always going to have the poor. "I think some thought I was too radical or trying to call people to too high of a standard in how we're going to love poor people"
