The majority of the slaves in ottom empire, were not black slaves from africa. The prisoners war basically ens re purposed. Houses were wooden and had large lattice windows from which woman could watch and listen. A traditional ottomon house was divided into two parts, the public area, the salam, where man received guests, and the haram, te private quarters where woman of the house live. While people lived close together in narrow streets here, a sort of neighborhood watch was in operation every day.
