A big part of the role of a conference is the hobnobbing. It's the opportunity to meet and talk to other people in your field. And I think they, you know, conferences really still do serve that purpose. But that's pretty orthogonal to the publication aspect of it. The sort of big name conferences are a little less effective in that role.
