The Importance of Metaphors in Strategy Games

Fog of war is a gameplay mechanic that has become iconic for strategy games. It allows players to only see certain numbers of advance wars tiles in front of them. The concept was inspired by real world physics like if and if you throw an object in the air it eventually falls down. "I just think it's like a weird one-off" says jacob geller.
