In the culture, children need to come first and make sure that the children matter. But some argue we've gone too far with this where we're raising narcisus. The point isn't tho use your kids as chattel - it's not a society where kids are seen but not heard. Kids are known to take over the function of parents. If they think there's something wrong up there, they can't be themselves. They have to worry, because the parents are their earth, moon and son. That's why the couple has to take care of itself. It has to resource resource itself.
