The Pros and Cons of Having an Agent

Having an agent or a publisher sort of before it's you on the pro side. Well, they take care of a lot of the marketing and stuff. A good book editor gets a sensitive flaky author to produce something massive without totally self distracting. In some ways, an agent also does what I do sometimes for my clients which is like identify what special about your work.
