The Shadow of Thomism
Brandon Rotzinger: I think Thomists can learn from the Franciscan tradition more of that mystical, intuitive side of theology. He says Thomas Aquinas' Aristotelianism was a step forward in many ways but carries the shadow of intellectualism and rationalism. But does it need always something from the east to come in? Well, behind Bonaventure, indeed, is Augustine; also the Irenaean stream. Think of Baltazar here, who brings origin and Maximus the Confessor and those people forward.
