Do We Need This Capacity Going Forward?
Australia is spending up to $368 billion on this in the long term. Can you be honest with people that these submarines will spend more time in the South China Sea and if necessary have that capability to be able to strike the mainland? How would you sort of answer that? Well I would answer it not by reference to a specific country which might surprise you butI would answer it by reference to our needs. Our national interest lies much more beyond the border of our continent than it ever has, so we need this capability going forward.
