I think that string theory will find its place, but not in the simple way that we imagined. I think there are going to be fundamental new ideas and ways of looking at things. We tend to be too arrogant about how complete our current knowledge is. And it will grow and accrete other things before it finds its home in some kind of home and physical reality. That's my guess.
