Introduction
Hugh Rockoff is a well known economic historian and we are revisiting a show we did with him back in 2016. Hugh argues the long arc of US monetary history, especially as it relates to the US economy becoming a so called optimal currency area. This journey includes the US riding a wave of hyperinflation into existence during the Revolutionary War. America's early experience with central banking, the use of three major American currencies, the greenback, the Confederate dollar and the yellowback during the Civil War.
