What's the Culture of Comradeship and Relationships in the Air Force?

In the US, they would have done a lot of their initial training separately. They wouldn't have known one another then. So by the time you deploy overseas to the 8th Air Force, it's very likely that you know these guys pretty well on your crew. You're not always flying every mission with your crew. People had different attitudes. Some people wanted to get their tours of duty done really quickly. And so let's say I'm a navigator, I'm looking to fill in on anybody's plane on any flight and go home. But then again, if I'm a different person, I might be very superstitious about flying with somebody else,. especially if I've survived
