The Relationship Between Open Source and Private Research Practices
I don't think there's necessarily as large of a gap between the state of the art in terms of like model architecture and training procedures. I think their largest advantage is really in compute and data that nobody else has access to, so they have a three year head start on essentially everyone else. So if we're to compare GPT for on a set of general tasks to the open source alternatives that are out there I think GPT for wins.
