I think that one of the most remarkable characters in building stories is the building, the building itself. And the building has its own soul. The building loves the pitter patter of pink feet, and tracks - it keeps track of how many people live there. My friend tim samuelson, is the cultural historian of the city of chicago,. really genuinely feels sympathy for buildings and for what they've experienced through various generations. He's been a big influence in my life in that way.
