The HIV/AIDS Epidemic in the African Region
Tuberculosis is the leading cause of death among people with HIV, Luke says. TB and HIV form a lethal combination, which they both sort of egg each other on. Only 46% of TB patients known to be living with HIV were on anti-retroviral therapy in 2021. The African region has the highest burden of HIV associated TB because there's an HIV AIDS epidemic in Africa.
