Sy Hersh's Interview With Bill Colby

Bob Greene: Sy Hersh got his interview with Bill Colby at CIA headquarters on December 20th, 1974. The New York Times copy desk only had enough space for 2000 words and Hersh needed more a lot more. He appealed to the night editor for more space but they couldn't do it so he decided to bring this to the top. It's now 2 AM and size desperate to get the editor in chief on the phone. A minute later Abe Rosenthal gets on the telephone and says I don't care what the hell is going on there. But you've got to tell Abe Rosenthal that Sy Hersh is on the phone and he's calling him urgently.
