Day 169: The Mystagogy of Baptism
The Catechism in a Year (with Fr. Mike Schmitz)
00:00
The Sacrament of Baptism
Baptismal water is consecrated by a prayer of epiclysis, either at this moment or at the Easter vigil. The celibate then anoints him with the oil of catechumens or lays hands on him, and he explicitly renounces Satan. In the Roman Liturgy, the post-baptismal anointing announces a second anointing with sacred chryism to be conferred later by the bishop,. Confirmation will confirm and complete the baptismal anointeding.
