The Story of a Teenager With Depression
When Emma Bailey was 15 years old she ran away from home and an abusive stepmother. She lived in the woods for seven months while working at a series of minimum wage jobs in Calgary. From age 16 to 24 she was in and out of support groups for those who believed they had been abducted by aliens. In May of 2009 she responded to an ad to go hiking along the strong bone road. Among her possessions after the hike ended was found a trove of thirty sketches she had made over the years of the moment when that dark shape appeared before her.
