The History of Phineas Gauge
If you're talking about a consciousness that is outside of the brain, how does the brain destroy that? And does it ever regroup? Maybe this gets to be spiritual, philosophical, whatever. The example of Phineas gauge was a young railroad worker who died after his tamping rod blew through his head and clattered to the ground 50 yards away. He didn't even lose consciousness until he coughed in a little teaspoon full of brain fell out on the dust.
