i grew up with zero knowledge of mental health, to the point where i like, we woud just use being depressed as an adjective for, like, being bummed out. That made me not even take it seriously until a doctor told me that they thought i was depressed when i was 23 years old. I almost think there is a deluding of terms when, you know, otherwise growing up would just be like, omagat. Beli misis depressing. Think about how people in appropriately talk about being o c d um. These are things that have floated around in a way that separates them from their serious diagnoses and just kind of coops the terms to describe something fairly commonplace
