Hospice projects were created as antidotes to the hospital. A death in place like an hospice project is usually very peaceful because we've gotten to know that person. And you can watch folks have this little bit of closure, perhaps. But more the point is you watch them ah swarmed with warmth and love and easing into the grief process.

BJ is a palliative care physician at Zen Hospice Project in San Francisco, where he thinks deeply about how to create a dignified, graceful end of life for his patients.
