Jeremy Thorpe has had a torrid few months. The Liberals missed out on a coalition government by a whisker. Norman turned up at his house, telling Marion about their affair and begging for money. He'd have to mortgage his house to raise that kind of cash. Instead he wonders if he can siphon some money through the party. With another general election coming up, Thorpe has an excuse to ask for funds. They agree on a figure of £17,000 - but it's way above budget.
