The Church Turing Thesis of Quantum Computing
The main thesis of quantum computing is that the particle universe in which we build our classical computers is inefficiently implemented on the substrate. And so quantum computing hopes to connect to the substrate in such a way that we can harvest some of this computation in a more efficient way than particles normally can. It's so far in my view unproven that it works to the degree that I understand it, but I wouldn't rule it out.
