A photograph of patman lecturing the empty chairs appeared in multiple newspapers. The washington post even ran it above the fold. Their decision not to appear, patman said, was an insult to every single american who believes in free, open elections. It's safe to say i felt a real sense of betrayal. And for myself, it was the beginning of a political cynicism.
