In the latter half of the period, high culture began to revive itself. The social upheaval provided by constant warfare allowed for a near unheard of level of social mobility that would not be matched until the 19th century. Much like the local lords of the late Holy Roman Empire, even when they were not actively trying to kill each other, the various Daimyo competed indirectly for prestige. Next week we will turn to the reunification of Japan, and the stories of three men who ended the chaos.
