There is no sophware industry to speak of in 19 76 or 77 or 78. Almost all computers are running custom billet offhere. And that's true from home up the corporate stack. So creating sophwere as a separate industry is kind of a new idea. The reception of gates letter throughout the hobbiest community reveals how novel that is.
